Virtual ASB2020 Announcement

Dear ASB members and meeting participants,

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to hold our 2020 Annual Meeting in a virtual format. Negotiations are ongoing to host an ASB conference in Atlanta, GA at a future date. Although we look forward to seeing each of you and participating in the excellent scientific programming and discussions each summer, we have decided that holding an in person meeting is not safe or feasible this year.

We are excited to host the 2020 Annual Virtual Meeting, and hope that this format allows everyone full participation in our programming. Although we are working out the final details, we can tell you a few things:

● The meeting will still take place August 4-7, 2020.
● All content will be available asynchronously both during and after the meeting, for you to view at your leisure.
● Many tutorials, symposia, networking sessions, and workshops will take place virtually.
● All podium presentations will be in a 5-minute “lightning talk” format, with opportunity for live questions and answers.
● Poster presentations will include enhanced opportunities for user-generated content and sharing.
● Discussion / chat boards will facilitate additional discussion/interaction.

The exact registration cost of the virtual meeting is still being determined but will be substantially reduced. Our registration fee will be based on a goal of breaking even on meeting-related costs (not including losses associated with cancelling the in-person meeting). It will allow us to cover the cost of Journal of Biomechanics publication of abstracts and host platforms for the virtual meeting. Additional programmatic details and registration information will be available by June 15.

If you already registered for the in-person Annual Meeting, you will be receiving information regarding a refund via email.

Finally, if you have technical expertise (e.g. web design, webinar hosting, etc.) that would be relevant to a virtual meeting, and are interested in helping the Program Committee in this capacity, please contact Karen Troy (ktroy@wpi.edu)

We look forward to seeing you all virtually this summer!
